best way to put your 2 weeks notice?

I’ve good relationship with my manager and my team in general. I’m moving on to a new job but I haveing a hard time now wiaitng for my paper work to be done before I put my two weeks notice because you never know what the team will think. the hardest part is we are in the middle of a project and I’m one of the leads for it. I don’t know how my manager and the team will feel when I give the notice and I want it to be as peacful as possible. I’m not sure how to go about it.. sometime I wonder if I should tell some co-workers just so they know they will be on their own. In the same time I don’t know if I should do that or not. I would like to hear what would you guys do if you were in my shoe what would you do?

Trust me They have army of people to replace you. You are just a lead. Even if CEO calls it quit they will find someone to replace him within 1 hour.

You are overthinking. They will be fine without you. Just follow the standard procedure of putting in 2 weeks notice and leave.

They'll threaten to kill themselves if you don't stay. But you must stay strong and go fulfill your destiny. Let them die.

Finally, a reasonable answer

Have you ever witnessed layoffs day? Irrespective of projects, lead, and talent you will be kicked out.. so don’t get so personal to move out.

I would suggest doing it in person first with your manager that you have a good relationship with. Then for the paper trail just to be official, write the letter of resignation. I did that when I was a TVC at Google and they told me that if I ever decided to come back that the door was open for me.

Send the official resignation email to you manager FIRST. Then talk to him. This way you give him a few moments to process so that he can be less shocked. But I don’t think anyone will be shocked as much you may imagine.

Agree with the others that you should speak to your manager FIRST. Don’t let them find out from someone else. I understand that it can be hard to leave as you’re emotionally invested in either the work out your colleagues but know that the team will be fine. Things always rebound and get sorted out.

Do NOT tell your co-workers you’re leaving before you tell your own boss. Your boss should be the first to know your plans; don’t burn that bridge. There’s always some project going on so there’s never really a “perfect” time for stuff like this. Just rip the band-aid off, put your notice in, and life will go on.

Step 1) Email your manager telling him that you accepted another job and are putting in your two weeks notice. Then at the end of the email ask to meet with him to discuss. After doing this you'll feel better. Step 2) Meet your Manager and thank him telling him how amazing your experience has been blah blah blah. Step 3) Start new job
