Ok. Hear me out. I know many get on here and say they did so well when obviously they didnt after a rejection, but seriously something weird happened here. Any advice as to why i didnt get the job is helpful. I currently work at a top company so I know how this works, I know when I have messed up (i have at other interviews) and i know when ive done well which i did at this amazon onsite interview i just failed. For each interview i solved multiple questions which were directly from leetcode and I have seen many times before. Each lp/behaviorial question i had a good conversation, and im pretty personable especially compared to my peers. The system design round I thought went pretty well, but Im not super experienced so maybe that was it. When i left i really thought i would get an offer. The worst part is I wasnt super interested in the job and didnt really need it, they reached out to me. I didnt become interested until onsite. tldr: Did well onsite, no offer, did some bs happen? Why no hire? TC: 190k 2.5 yoe
Bar raiser?
What does that mean?
Bar raiser no is no. How did that one go?
Amazon has humans in the interview panel and they make mistakes while hiring. Get competing offers since you say you're good š
Dude, but wtf how much better can it go. I mean the plan all along was to get other offers but to have the competing offer would be nice.
If the interviewer fought with his/her spouse and missed his/her breakfast to interview you then you ain't getting the job no matter what.
Itās bizarre that you thought you did well but didnāt get an offer? Thereās a lot of reasons this could go poorly. You are too experienced for a lower level and design wasnāt raising the bar. You wrote good code, but whiffed on disambiguation or complexity analysis. You had a good conversation on LPs but lacked depth. Have any friends that are BRs at Amazon that can mock interview you?
This is good feedback thanks. What is br? I would agree yeah, design didnāt go the best it could. I could see how i didnāt get hired knowing this.
Itās bizarre that I know I did perfectly on 3 of the rounds and at worst good on the 4th and didnāt get an offer. To me thatās bizarre and has never happened before. I have passed harder interviews than this which was a rather easy loop to be honest. Thatās why itās bizarre.
If they didnt ask you not to apply for X years then you did ok, but not enough for this role. You can apply again to Amazon
They said 6 months.
Ok, so thats a good data point. To them, you seemed not experiened enough for the level you have applied to.
It happens. Try again in 6 months. Sometimes you donāt fit with what the team is looking for or the team is looking for a specific background. They usually are on the cautious side, if someone had a doubt and no one could provide the data squash the doubt, then itās a no.
Which level was the interview for? L5 or L6?
L4 which is why Iām more shocked
the leadership principles behavior questions are just weird

In what plane of existence do kids make sense at all?
If itās leetcode, you knew the question beforehand and didnāt say you knew, thatās why. Itās not āEarning Trustā. Interviews know if youāve seen a problem before.
What seriously? Lol they asked a question and I solved it, they ask some 5 year old question and Iām supposed to say itās a stale question?
So the correct thing to do is say Iāve solved this on leetcode before? They literally told me to practice leetcode mediums and then they asked one?
