buying a car that has “repair/repaint disclosure”

I was at dealership checking a car l like. That car has a disclosure said”Lot-repair/repaint for scratch:$2300”. I checked carfax, and there is no issue recorded for that car. im wondering, is this car safe to buy? That is the only car for that color/trim among 6 dealerships around my house.

They had to fix the paint. It could have been scratched in transit. Are they giving you a discount? It's not really a problem as long as it is repaired correctly.

You would have a little trouble selling it. When you sell it, dealers don’t just check carfax. They use this device on each and every panel to check paint consistency/thickness. If something is off, they’ll offer you lower price.

not always true. all depends on the dealer

And most dealers would do that. Maximizing profits on cars is literally their job after all.

Why don’t you ask the dealer to get more details?

one way to get peace of mind is leasing it at a great discount with an option of buying at lease end. this way you can return the car if you dont want it
