Currently unhappy at the role. Got hired in January, graduated college last year with MS in business. Job not even related to what I studied, I have a passion for products (consumer goods) want to be in that realm, doing business analytics, product mgmt. however when I applied to those role, was declined due to my I experience in the industry. What are my options right now? Can I apply to other jobs? How do I find a role that transitions me to product mgmt? Where do I start?
Is there any way to could switch to product in your current company? Reach out to me over DMs if you like, happy to help :)
This is Intel. Only products we have are PC and server chips. Primarily a B2B business. It is a shit company for US Citizen new grads. Only for desperate H1Bs.
What kind of tasks are you currently doing? Don't have to be super specific about it. Apparently some people say it's easy to do an internal transfer with the right attitude. I know a few people doing "dotted line" assignments to move toward their preferred job. It's risky, since it could appear that you are unhappy or you might risk doing two jobs poorly instead of one, but it seems to be working for my aquaintence.
Well, the team I’m in works on tool installations, so the tasks they are giving me mostly revolves around reconciling bill of quantities, reading design schematics and making sure the contractors are in line, then using excel to forecast costs for cost mgmt. Since I’m interested in analytics, I introduced power bi to the team, started using sql to optimize datasets, Automating them on excel using vba, and managing contractors.
Story of everyone !!
