coming out of school, better to start a startup or work in a big/small company

i am graduating next year and cureently have a great idea for startup. its been validated and shows interests by users but know that i don’t have enough experience in terms of management, business, etc to start my own company. is it better to leave the idea and work in a big/small company for a few years, and then try starting your startup, or just go for it and think of if as a once in a life time opportunity

Go for it. You wont learn management skill and business in big companies as a college hire.

You can learn a lot from working in a big company to learn about process and structure. You develop additional networks to leverage later. This is why the average age of successful entrepreneurs is ~45.

Join a startup, get some experience, learn how things work then you can come back and work on your idea. Idea is nothing without execution. If you have funding for your idea, you can always hire people to manage/sell.

You'd be surprised how quickly good ideas go stale... or if they are truly good, they are already in the collective consciousness and someone else will build it before you get a chance.

Work in a big company for one or two years. Pay off your loans, build some savings and get the brand name on your resume. Then go and work on startups.

Executing an idea is really difficult. You need to hire the smartest people for that. Some are born with charismatic skills. They can attract even the brilliant minds. Good example is Steve Jobs. So if you think you can convince lot of good talents to work for you, start a company. Else work for a startup and learn those skills.

We need 2 more pieces of info to help you weigh this decision: 1) do you have a technical degree or business? 2) are you able to get offers at the big tech companies? I worked at uber for a few years, learned a lot, worked on my startup for a few months on nights and weekends and eventually left to do the startup full time. Dm if you want my perspective
