My wife and I want to travel a whole bunch over the next 5 years or so before having kids. Which companies that any of you work for have you found that to fit in really nice with? basically looking for a good PTO policy and strong TC, but ultimately more of a culture that is on board with employees stepping completely away for weeks at a time in chunks (talking regular week-two week trips, not 6-8, etc) 8 YOE, TC 150k
GE in the US has permissive meaning āunlimitedā or untracked assuming you are professional and get your work done
So basically you want strong TC and 10 weeks vacation? š Self employed consulting.
AT&T is best fit for you, make sure not hired under Indian manager
Look into inVision. Fully remote company so you can travel without taking vacation
Adobe and LinkedIn have shut down period in addition to the weeks of vacation. Facebook has like 4 weeks of vacation but I am not sure if you can actually use them without worrying about getting low perf review or doing some work while on vacation. Microsoft has 3 weeks vacation and 12 holidays but this is standard in big tech. Google is probably similar or more.
I hear incredible things about LinkedIn but it seems like an especially hard nut to crack in terms of getting hired
That is also true. My friend was rejected after doing perfectly well in all of the interviews because the hiring manager didnāt understand the leveling in his company(Amazon) and rejected because of that. He was a senior at Amazon. The interviewer didnāt like he is still a senior after years of experience. At LinkedIn, they got senior in 1-2 years at the time whereas it takes years at Amazon. I guess they can be picky given they provide excellent wlb and pay at the same time.
Autodesk has the week off between Christmas New Years. Plus 6 week sabbatical every 4 years and unlimited vacation time. Just low TC unless you KILL the interview process. š¤·āāļø
Work as an SRE (or SWE-SRE), you can take your oncall compensation as time off and get an EXTRA 4-8 weeks off per year.
