Google offered me PgM role at TC 200k. Now my current employer wants to counter offer. Will Google engage in a bidding war? or just tell me it’s a final offer on the 200k?
Ask Google to beat it. I’d join Google anyway. You can boomerang back anytime

Depends on the role’s level. If 200k at L3, then Google certainly won’t go beyond that for PgM role. But if 200k at L5, then you still have some room to negotiate.
Yeah, it’s L3, and I got the impression that it was near the limit for that PGM role
Don’t do this. If you want to go then go, asking for more in a bidding war will start you off on a bad foot with your new manager. Also never accept an offer to stay, you’re labeled and will be left behind for promos and good roles. So if you want to go, negotiate a deal that’s right for you and go. Don’t try to play the bidding war game like it’s a house, bad for everyone.
I believe the negotiation would be between you and the compensation committee
bidding is good, and you must negotiate, otherwise you will die inside every day for getting paid less.
You told your current employer even before accepting Google offer?
Of course, that's what you do to see if they counter as long as you are still ready to walk away
Not the same for those in H1. We have to accept the offer, get the visa transferred and then let the current employer know. Oh, yeah, I miss that green card.
I was able to negotiate a higher TC with Google based on my existing company wanting me to stay.
In your situation, was Google’s counter offer an increase in one area (e.g., salary, equity, sign-on) or a completely revamped offer?
Completely revamped. In fact, they added another interview to raise me a level to meet my negotiation amount.
YMMV but 0% chance I would ever accept a counter offer. Google the topic. It never works out. Statistics on staying after accepting are bad. They know you tried to leave. Take the G offer and run. Dont look back. Theres a reason you looked and got an outside offer. Take it.
They also know you didn't leave so you are loyal. There are articles that says it might be good for you if you play it right (and if you actually want to stay and the issue is just the pay)
