im not depressed at this time. i have in the past and got treatment. a lot is happening right now, medical, career, relationship. perhaps this explains the sudden wave of emptiness and mental exhaustion i experience sometimes, say once a week. be that as it may, i’d like to know if you experience these waves of despair from time yo time? they dont engulf me, only wash over me. is this only something that affects people with depression in the past? thank you.
I am no expert but maybe it helps to notice the patterns. Both men and women experience hormonal fluctuations monthly that can affect mood. I am usually on the lookout for these days monthly and dismiss the <insert symptom here> attributing it to the hormonal change. Perhaps maintaining a log might help too. (Edit: And discussing it with a professional) I have no familiarity with depression. Just something to think about. I hope you feel better soon.
Thank you for the thoughts. No specific pattern. Just random, not mood swings/bursts of anger. A strong feeling of emptiness, but it isn’t severe enough to impact my overall well being. I’ve been dealing with by waiting for it to go away by itself; it usually does, about a day or several hours.
It’s called an existential crisis - if you’re working in tech expect a lot of them
Not common advice but go get your hormones checked. Low testosterone can present itself as symptoms of depression.
Tried meditation? Helped me through something similar
Mindfulness has helped me tremendously in staying grounded through a series of misfortunes. I can’t for the life of me meditate though. I’ve heard there are classes for beginners. Will check them out. Thank you so much for the prompt.
A magic mushroom guided experience also helped
Completely relate to you. Sometimes they're much stronger that just washing over. Sometimes I fall.
Perhaps if you had an SO to give you a hug, it would be better? Or maybe if you had a child to hold? I do spend time with my neighbor’s son. He’s hilarious and brings a lot of smiles. I go to their place once a day. Have you tried any of these? I hope you feel better soon.
I have a family (wife, kid) and honestly things got worse after having kid.
Every day.
Could be burnout. Many people have this. Money or career isn't more important than your mental health
