do you need to serve notice period ? whats the downside of just quitting?

i got my h1b transfer filed and approval notice due in 10 days, do i need to serve notice period? or can i just say i am moving to rival firm and quit, i don‘t need anything from my current employer . i dont need any letters from them . only query is i can port my priority date right? new employers has asked laywers to start working on new i140

      It's worth giving a professional 2 weeks notice unless you are being actively harassed or something. Last 2 weeks will likely be very easy anyways.

      It's a cheap (hell, you even get paid) way to maintain a professional relationship with your coworkers.
