I agree. When they try I'll try.
I reply and ask if it’s a remote role and when they say no I respectfully decline. If you enjoy working remotely you should do this as well to push more recruiters to offer remote jobs
It's not up to the recruiters, it's up to the company.
What you think will happen if 70% candidates say they prefer remote roles
I agree with the always vote
If I replied to all those emails, that’d be the only thing I did all day
I reply only for individual recruiters directly from company. Lots of mass recruiters are even lazy enough to see that First/Last in the form isn't populated, so you get a mail with the body "Hello {first name} {last name}!". Someone send same vacancies multiple times over a small amount of time. Why should I respect that attitude? Better send to spam or unsubscribe.
Yes, it's the human thing to do.
I will if the job is actually well targeted. That tells me that the recruiter is somewhat clueful and worth responding to, even to decline. If I'm dealing with an idiot then I don't bother responding.
If the correspondence hints that they read my resume, sure. However, when I receive emails unsolicited regarding lifting heavy boxes on a forklift when I’m in the Agile transformation space I don’t bother. Or when I receive an email regarding nursing because an old job from 15 years ago contained the word ‘triage’. I sometimes respond to those and ask where they found my resume so that I can remove it.
I always listen.
I always do, for a couple reasons. One, I may eventually want the job. Two, as a manager, having a solid network of recruiters is very useful.
Adding to a good answer - you never know where recruiters land up. For example recruiter maybe at company x now, but could be at company y in the future where you may want to go in the future. Furthermore, as you grow in your career, they will grow in theirs too, maybe becoming executive head hunters for example. You want good relationships with recruiters. Always.
