As no service is provided I generally do not tip but at the same time did tip sometimes.

Argument for tipping: someone packs it for you, takes your payment = service I usually don’t tip if one off; adding a dollar or two for my regular Chinese 🥡
🤔takes your payment = service! Because taking payment in exchange for food is optional?
If taking your payment were to be considered a service, then taking a tip should be considered a service as well, so you would need to tip for the tip and so on... 😀
I generally do tip, and about 10-15% (less than I do for a server). The reason. There was service, you just didn’t see it. Someone front of the house boxed your order up and bagged it (when they could have been serving others in house and getting tips). They also had to give you the bag, smile, tell you they hope you enjoy it, and ask if you need anything else (and often quickly get you sauces or the like). So you’re definitely being served. To me, it’s worth about 10-15%.
+1 - Service industry folks rely too heavily on tips for me to feel okay not tipping.
Depends where you are as to whether they "rely" on tips much. There's a concept known as minimum tipping wage. CA and WA are the most progressive in the country, giving full min wage. Several east coast states give like $2/hr. Always tip the latter. There former... Think about it...

If I need to grab the food from the counter and no one comes to my table to take my order, then I don't consider having received "service" = no tip ever
