electrical engineer offer apple

apple offer base-$180k RSU-$180k 4 years sign on $40k current level IC4 7-8 YOE current TC $220k when the recruiter contacted me, he first started off telling me that he doesnt have any numbers and asked me for my expectations. not sure if this is his negotiation strategy. I asked for apple’s standard package but the recruiter claimed there was no such thing. I reluctantly revealed my expectations $190k base $200k stocks and $40k bonus and he told me i was in the higher end for base and rsus. my expectations were based off of my current TC with about 5-7% increase only. i was surprised when the recruiter told me i was in the higher end. he kept mentioning that apple will try to make sure I dont lose money (RSUS) because of accepting apple’s offer but stressed on the need for verifying my RSU’s . is this normal? how can one provide personal sensitive information? wondering if this is the best apple can do? also i dont really like asking for more. it makes me very unconfortable. not my personality although I am aware that if i dont ask for more , i am not going to get more( this is just fyi) i have an offer from a startup but i am not really interested in that offer. the startup offer barely matches my current base salary with $200k in options.

Probably a good offer given that it’s a hardware position.

This is Cupertino

Base seems high for YOE. How much RSUs are you leaving behind at Nvidia. If it is more than $180K, then I would suggest providing proof to get a match. Did they mention yearly refresher numbers and bonus %?

NVIDIA fmyoot OP Dec 12, 2019

Around $140-150k...yes the yearly refresher is just standard. But I may miss their next review cycle because I wouldnt have completed one full year at apple. So I am asking for $200k rsu for that cushion also apples stock is usually in a upward trajectory so by the time I join them if the stock price is higher and by the time the price gets locked the number of stocks awarded can be less right? I already make around $175k base so a 5-6% hike isn’t unreasonable per my opinion

for reference, mine is like 5-6 yoe, with 170k, 160k rsu. You can ask for more bonus definitively, but yeah they might need proof for rsu because they have some standard rsu they give out to everyone. You can ask for more base, but it seems reasonable and i didn’t try pushing higher as well because i had no competing offers.

What kind of proof... do you just strike off any information that is unnecessary? Just a screenshot on my phone? What details will they be looking for?

never went thru myself, ask the recruiter or use best judgment

NVIDIA giGY12 Dec 12, 2019

Yes, just blank out everything except unvested RSU $ amount. However if your unvested RSU amount is less than what they have offered, I doubt if they will budge. You need to account for base + bonus with this offer. I have heard Apple yearly refreshers are better than Nvidia. Ask the recruiter if you will get a refresher next year if you join before whatever timeframe you have in mind.

I have been offered the exact same numbers last week. I have 14 yoe.

From apple?

Nuage Networks NoDrama Dec 12, 2019

If you get ~40k refresher every year than it’s a solid offer. Or else it’s a bit low.
