with the statement “It’s important to us that we take every precaution to protect your interest. As a result, we are writing to inform you that we have added [spouse name] to your policy..” The premium is more than double now.. I didn't request to add... are they allowed to do that ? 😮😮😮
Yes, it's legal. And they add roommates too by default, sigh. I debated with them for a long time that they don't use my car but they said it's the law, we have to include spouse and roommates or anyone who lives with you because they can use your car 🙄
Whoa- what state?
They’re probably lying to you. No one at insurance companies knows shit about the law except the lawyers, and you weren’t talking to one.
The insurance just doesn’t go up by adding spouse. Did your spouse have an accident record? Is the spouse younger than 25 years? You should call and talk to them about possible discounts.
Switch to Kemper. They allow you to add excluded drivers to your policy, even your wife.
Fuck kemper and all of its adjusters.
Not sure what state you are in, and policies are going to vary by state, but the Geico policy in California already effectively covers any relative that drives your car, so that’s really just Geico saying “we already cover her anyway so payup motherfucker.” I’m legally separated from the wife and own and insure all our cars, and she is not on any policy but routinely drives one of them.
We are in California too, you are right, my spouse has been listed on insurance as a non driver from the day I insured, but my spouse got driving license recently and they added spouse with additional insurance as driver which I never asked for... I find it ridiculous...
My spouse and I have different addresses on our ids, so maybe they are flagging it via DMV records.
You should have done this cost analysis before getting married. 🙄
Geico included my wife and she doesn’t even have a drivers license...
It was Same here, but Usually they add spouse as non driver, so premium should be same without the adding the spouse.
I linked my gieco insurance on Gabi and it is giving me half of what gieco premium charge now with exactly same coverage, however provider is rather unfamiliar called "clearcover"
You can request that your wife be added to your policy as an excluded driver. However there won’t be any coverage if she drives that car.
It's illegal in some states to have a spouse with a valid DL who's not on your insurance.
Even if the spouse doesn't drive?
Yea. As soon as they get a DL they have to be added on insurance
