I thought it was sales but after speaking with some of the guys in cloud sales, I was wrong. High up PM’s or super laser focused Sales Engineers. But for the most part SWE’s take the cake still

But I know some sales guys that make some crazy money. Some exceed their numbers so much they barely even have to show up for work...

Northrop Grumman HowCouldYu Aug 20, 2019

Yeah but those are usually the 1% of sales. Highly highly unlikely and not very common to obtain. You could go 5 years and be under quota or only make 100% OTE and never be one of those 1% sales hot shots. It’s just the facts. Sometimes takes luck, sometimes takes skill, all about timing

Security also

What specifically in security? Security Engineer? Consultant?

Sales, if you are good at sales...

+1. Have seen Amazon sales vs eng offers. Amazon pays sales more. Yes there's eng making more but they aren't making more for the given stress & hours worked

But if you compare the number of people in fengineering vs sales who get high compensation, won't engineering win? Very few people in sales make really good money imo

PMs at Microsoft make equal money as engineers. In fact, the average per level was slightly higher for PMs. This is not normal as Amazon pays considerably lower for PMs (instead they give better title to make up for the diff). There are PMs who used this wisely. Since Microsoft pays the same, they get high title when they move to Amazon. For example, PM2 at Microsoft will get senior at Amazon. Then they come back to Microsoft after two years. As they look at the title, some lucky ones (a lot) come back as principal. We had 3 such PMs in our org lol
