Make yourself important enough and then keep complaining about terrible pay and want of more money

ICU Medical user3.0 Oct 12, 2019

That's one way. Doubt it works though.

Yahoo JabS27 Oct 15, 2019

This is the only freaking way it works.

Wouldnt want to piss off the hand feeding now though?

American Airlines duuuude55 Oct 15, 2019

If they’re not feeding you enough then absolutely.

American Airlines ydntudkof OP Oct 15, 2019

Asked boss about more money, dude responded, he has no clue how to get me more pay. Hello AA WTF.

American Airlines VlxP81 Oct 14, 2019

adhocs are possible off cycle at AA but you have to be in a big disparity for your level/role and a top performer

American Airlines ydntudkof OP Oct 14, 2019

So hard to beat the system

American Airlines duuuude55 Oct 15, 2019

Turn on you LinkedIn recruiter flag and start talking to other companies. The chances of you getting a material adjustment at AA is slim to none. You can go back at a higher salary at some point if you want, but going to a company that values you (both personally, and in your paycheck) will open your eyes and you’ll never want to go back. AA is like an abusive relationship. You keep trying and trying to do what they want so you can be treated the way you deserve. Then one day you leave and realize it wasn’t your fault.

Abusive relationship. So. True. Just today: MDs unable to strategize so most of us running in circles, punching each other, and pushing each other under buses. Entertaining unless you’re in said vicious cycle of hell.

Interview get offers and move on

Uber IXX Oct 18, 2019

AA has a simple formula: Step 1. Get an offer at DL or UA and take it to your manager and have an friendly, open & blunt conversation. Step 2. If you’re in the top right corner of the “9-box” they’ll beg you to stay, and MD/VP will give you a counter salary offer, and/or cash/stock lump sum. If you aren’t in the top right corner, instead they’ll say “good luck in the new role!” And see you to the door within an hour or two. And you’ll leave to get better pay elsewhere.

Did you work for AA? Do they really walk you out if you leave for a competitor?

Uber IXX Oct 18, 2019

If you work in the commercial org they really do. If you’re an MD or more senior they might let you walk out at the end of the day

American Airlines duuuude55 Oct 19, 2019

Yes they walk you out. So do other airlines, especially if you work in RM or Sales where there are many external competitive strategy roles.

American Airlines VlxP81 Oct 20, 2019

Wow, so clean out your desk before you resign? I'm in tech and people give like 3 to 4 weeks notice - not going to OAL though

Uber IXX Oct 20, 2019

You should always tell people you’re going to OAL. If you give a “2 week notice” instead of resigning, then they’ll walk you out and legally they’re still required to pay you those last two weeks. The “free 2 week vacation” as some call it in the industry. Also besides cleaning out your desk you should also burn all your VC days and book lots of future AA20/Zed tickets while you still can 😉
