anyone from atlanta ? housing is realy affordable but then again everything is relative.
Cost of living is great. More companies are moving in midtown. It's the next to pop. It's more of the diverse tech scenes.
Why doesn't open door move to midtown? Who wants to drive downtown?
If only we knew Current office is accessible by Marta from any line rather than just red/gold and my parking spot is good for events at the stadium and centennial Olympic park. That’s pretty much all the good things I have to say about it.
It's diverse, and there are some really smart people there and cool problems to work on. But I didn't really like the city.
Way too much traffic
We have an office in Alpharetta. I think the tech scene is ok, it’s not like in the Bay Area but nothing is. Housing is cheap especially in low income areas. If you’re ok with southern life style and are not obsessed about kids education it can be a good deal
Alpharetta and environs have some of the best public school districts in the entire nation. People there don't worry about their kids' education.
What are the hot Atlanta startups?
Mailchimp and Kabbage are both unicorns. I think Salesloft is one OR will be soon. There are 2 or 3 other unicorns I can't remember the names of at the moment.
You can get a job just by putting post it notes on your apartment window, so id say pretty strong. Housing isn't as affordable as you might think if you want to live in a nice neighborhood. Def cheaper than Seattle or SF. Pros: Reasonable COL, very green/lots of trees, great food city. Cons: Traffic. Worse than Seattle and Bay Area by a significant margin.
AT&T is in Lenox Square. Lots is being built up that way. Alpharetta for the tech hub outside downtown.
Buckhead is traffic nightmare. I used to work down there and between Thanksgiving and Christmas it would literally take 45 minutes just to get through the intersection of piedmont and lenox.
D’oh! Off topic but how’s it just after Christmas? Is there a noticeable reduction of people (people leaving town for the holidays) or do more people come into ATL?
Tech is definitely growing in Atlanta. Living in the city is expensive, but the suburbs are absolutely affordable (5 bdrms for <$400k). Just have to deal with the traffic.
Depends how many days you can work remotely. 5 BD / 3.5 BA in Dallas going for just a hair above $250k. Commuting 2 days a week (3 days if you’re committed) and it would be worth it.
Yess!
Well, not quite. Depends on what you mean by Atlanta. If you mean just the actual city limits, yes. But that's usually not what is meant.
