Depends where you end up, like anywhere there are some crap projects, but overall there is a great amount of interesting and challenging work. Great amount of diversity too. Capital One has a strong tech-driven strategy and invests a lot in their engineers. Also offers most of the same perks as other tech companies.
Why not join a tech company where the culture is more engineering centric?
In the Capital One locations that support the developers, (Plano, SF, NYC) it very much is engineering centric.
Wanna be tech company. It has its sweet spots. But does not feel so tech at all. Overall good people and very smart people.
it's getting there but there is still a fair amount of anti tech process that stymies progress. bay area is likely better than other locations, though.
Lots of meetings, many useless rent seekers. Not competitive compensation. Tech is second class here, regardless of what they say. Good intentions from CEO, but it does not trickle down.
Cap One is directing themselves as a Technology company first and they've become quite successful at it. I am not in a developer role but I have been doing development work for the last year on an internal niche application and I can tell you that my development accomplishments have afforded me a lot more opportunities than had I just slogged away at my titled job. My trajectory is very unique and ymmv but based only on internal communications and building designs in our Plano and SF campuses, Cap One is definitely working toward keeping their developers happy.
