is the market really saturated with software engineers now with all the recent layoffs? i was offered a opportunity to contract at Facebook at 60 dollars an hour. i usually average around 110-150/Hr on W2. i quickly dismissed it but then a ton of recruiters have been throwing similar numbers between $60-90/Hr. ive also been rejected from opportunities recently with the similar responses of : “we've been asked to put a hold on introducing new candidates to the process due to an unexpected surge of candidates in the process” ive also been dismissed at seeking 180k base in NYC by recruiters who explained they rarely see opportunities that can pay that high during this period of the year. Is the supply high and demand low now? should lower my salary expectations/requirements to compete with the fired engineers?
What do you mean rising?? It's only wework...
WeWork, Uber
What's your yoe OP? Current TC helps as well.
10 Years of experience, senior/lead in software engineering TC: 185k Seeking the same base, or $120/Hr W2 contract
You could get a higher salary from FANG ones. You trying there?
Am based out of New York and I don’t see any major layoffs here ..for decent senior engineer who can code 100/ hour is pretty standard
I don’t see many companies in nyc offering 180k for a new hire. Highest I’ve seen was from JPM and that was 145k base, every other company I have spoke to including Amazon offers only 109k base for a senior engineer. 180k is usually only for team leads.
Amazon was open to doing 220k base last time I was going through the process in 2018. Those numbers are fucking crazy
220k in ny? Looking at Glassdoor salaries, FTE level III at amazon is TC 180k. I’m a front end engineer so they will probably offer less TC to me than a back end engineer. But in ny, I don’t see companies offering TC 200k to people full time. That’s usually only for managers.

TikTok Internal Situation. Should I join with huge bump in compensation?
Companies will now further complicate an already complicated hiring process 🤦♂️
Yes more competition in market with rising layoffs
