Why are you considering it?

Intel botss OP Mar 15, 2019

just smth different and want to expand my options for post grad full time. both are internships

I would put together a spreadsheet listing comparisons on location, health benefits, compensation, local amenities, attractions and culture, probability of advancement, distance from family, traffic, etc. score them and see who wins. TC isn’t everything.

Personally, Round Rock is better than Chandler. Austin has other tech companies you can jump to, when compared to Phoenix.

That's probably the only compelling case

Dell was shit when I worked there last I.e 9 years ago. Things might have changed now

Dell mikedell Mar 16, 2019

Nope

Dell is very political, esp RR-5 PowerEdge related groups. I would recommend against joining Dell. Depends on your interests too if it is hardware/embedded. Software development is namesake. I would recommend trying elsewhere too.

Intel CYaaS Mar 16, 2019

Intel is also very political. More successful groups/projects get ZBBd because they make failing ones look bad, but the failing managers are better politicians or have “history” with the failure they report into. Intel’s politics are focused on the incompetent keeping the competent from exposing them. At Dell the politics likely tie more closely to revenue/margin of various product groups.

Samsung EternalACT Mar 16, 2019

Can confirm Intel is a political clown show. Always try to leave Intel.

Dell mikedell Mar 16, 2019

Second against joining Dell. Nothing to really gain here that you can't get better, somewhere else.

Intel p2p jitter Mar 16, 2019

Dell is not a good place to move. Consider other options if possibles

Dell mikedell Mar 16, 2019

Yup. Totally.

Depends on your goals. I think more learning and experience is the best path these days. If you can afford it, do it.

Dell cDsu88 Mar 16, 2019

What field are you in?

Intel botss OP Mar 17, 2019

data analytics / science

In general, I would say doing a second internship at another company is a good thing. If you want to try Dell - go for it. Will give a different view of the world. You might like it, you might hate it. Either way, you learn something. It's and internship so you know you are leaving anyhow. BUT, if you leave your Intel internship in the middle of it, that won't be great. Might keep you from getting a full time offer.

Dell dot123 Mar 23, 2019

Austin is definitely better in tech opportunities than Phoenix. Other than that I don't see any upsides . That too if you have choice to move Seattle or bay area is obviously better . As to dell , I think it's a good place to work generally ( but very slow growth ). Compared to Intel they don't have a lot of interns or any programs for interns.. I think they only recently started this initiative to hire interns ..
