The best thing they did was drop they dead weight of a company eBay. They’re old news, especially with all the competing platforms. They were great when they were the exclusive “deal” site, but not you can get cheaper pricing across amazon and other smaller retailers.
Layoffs are coming first week of September. Confirmed. Marketing ops/marketing org will be affected. Credit might be grazed as well.
The PMs and lower level marketing managers are going to be let go. They introduced this new Kanban system that literally replaces the need for PMs and ops. A lot of the credit senior mktg managers are so happy. Their speed to market/ live to site yikes are incredibly reduced.
Fake news... Layoffs are happening because of increased efficiencies as well as moving some jobs to India. Look at our earnings, continued growth although we were slightly under our target. Mobile payments pie is large and continues to grow year of year. With the acquisition of iZettle, other M&A's, and further partnerships underway... We're not slowing down!
Sorry to sound insensitive, but without improving our Eng teams the company cannot have the growth it desires. I am hoping for things to change so I won't have to tell my family "I made a poor choice joining PayPal and need to look for another job." Unfortunaly PayPal retained too much dead weight from it's eBay years, and unless they grow out of that culture they will need to make hard decisions. Unfortunately layoffs are their strategy of handling that, which I don't like anymore that you do.
