HR is arguing that my expectation is unrealistic. cost of living in bay area for a family member is not comparable to San Diego. Is it worth to consider this offer even if they come back for ~$200K? how is the RSU refresh rate in Apple HW group? HR told it is 0 to 100% based on performance.
This is low for a family in the bay, I think you are better in SD. You can expect rent to be well over $4k if you want a decent size hour in a good school area.
Negotiating on base at these companies is really hard. try to negotiate on RSUs
Is your wife working? If not, don’t come even if you get 220.

You are better negotiating sign on and rsu. They will barely if any increase on the base. Personally, if you are stable better stay in SD. Bay area is growing worse every passing day

I think you should be able to increase base to 190-200. If that RSU number is for 4 years you should at least 2X it, if it is per year then it's very good.
There seems to be more room for RSU. The base is good enough. Like everyone is saying ask for more bonus and RSUs. 180K is decent enough base to survive in the bay area. Your standard of living will be down graded no doubt, but overtime you will make more money as your RSUs pipeline fills up.
