manager is bullying

i am a manager, my boss-director got fired. we got a new boss who sits in NY. we are a team of 16 people in July. slowly we became 7. most of them left. boss comes once in a month and talks to the team individually and demotivates them. he says go to a different job i dont care and stay here i dont care as long as u do the job. no recognization, no motivating emails for the good work done. everyone is pissed off. we cannot complain to his boss bcz he also talks similarly. he comes once in a month and preaches us to find another job. team shrinked and as a manager if i say i need more people he says you do the job, i want to know every hour detail on what is being done. he did not hire us. we are hired by the one who got fired first. i did not hear this kind of talk to his core team from him. worst attitude and behavior. market is not that great too, trying out since longtime.

Why don’t you just leave?

Trying but no proper referrals to get me interview. In TORONTO everything works through referrals

I guess you already know the answer, is time to find a better place, toxic people are not worth to take our time

The jobs market has never been better in our lifetime—maybe in US history. Or are you not located in the US? Either way, your solution is to leave. As soon as possible.

Leave or ignore them and do your best on the sinking ship hoping that eventually a new manager will come aboard and learn as much as you can while there. For me looking for encouragement/motivation from your boss is the wrong place to look and is just a pleasant surprise when it happens. Is the company not big enough to transfer to another group?

Cognizant thunderboy OP Oct 18, 2019

They are not allowing ppl to move other groups. They say prove here and move on but they wont do it

Job market is good. If a manager is telling or hinting to you to leave and your previous one left... you leave. There’s nothing but misery there.

Report this to HR, document all previous meetings and save sent email. If you are not in California, search conversation recording law. Any retaliation comes due to HR report, lawsuit and make sure to stay in contact with all previous colleagues. Report hostile work place now with the state department because investigation will take time. If any retaliatory action, eeoc handles retaliatory actions. Hope you get fired since you will get huge backpay, if you voluntarily resign, you dont have a case.

Don’t waste your time HR always protects upper management

Is this the bar for lawsuits now? “no recognization, no motivating emails for the good work done.” Even telling them to quit and find another job is perfectly reasonable if what they want is emails they aren’t going to get at their job. Maybe there is just a lot more to it that the OP isn’t mentioning

Sounds like they are trying to clean house but don’t want to technically fire anyone. You are remanence of the old manager they are prolly too lazy to course correct the team or there’s been too much push back about change. SO, they make it toxic so YOU make the decision.
