Hi, Typically after how many days after accepting offer does microsoft start background check process? Do they send any forms to sign prior to starting the background check? Have not been able to get a response from recruiter on this. Accepted the offer about 3 days back.. Thanks
Can take a while, my MSFT was way more involved than Amazon. Mine was well over a week. MSFT backgrounder checkers contacted last 5 years of employment to confirm. My employer at the time drug their feet responding which slowed down the entire process.
Thanks, if I understand correctly, it took a week for background process to complete after they started. But do they send you any documents to fill prior to initiating the background check? And who sends these documents - some third party or will it appear in action center? Just curious as to when they start the background check after accepting offer..
Hi OP, i have recently finished my background check with Microsoft. DM me!
Do you mind telling everyone here what you told op. In a same boat.
In my case, it was my recruiter who initiated the background verification as soon as I accepted the offer. A third party company would send you a link to fill up a questionnaire.
What is the questionnaire include? Dates and names of previous jobs?
When you accept the offer, it kicks off a pre-onboarding stage in the action center. This stage includes a confidentiality with a pre-existing IP disclosure, a business protection agreement, a background screening agreement. Once you do that, the OneHR recruiter (not the original recruiter, usually someone in central HR in India) kicks off the background request. The background request goes to HireRight who should send you the onboarding/background form link within 1 business day. From the day y ou do that, MOST background checks take 5-7 days in HireRight (their SLA to MSFT is I think 10 BD). If you go past 10 BD, the Microsoft HR team will accept a request and reach out to HireRight to find out whats up. Once your background completes, it goes to the Microsoft Background Team which is yet another component of OneHR, who then handles any screen review, manual adjudications, etc. They then greenlight you to the recruiter. That Microsoft side can take anywhere from 1 business day to a week or two depending on what they are wrestling with or trying to confirm from your background check. I've learned through my own experience that even a stupid HireRight bump in the process (not even a discrepancy) is enough to slow the process at times on the Microsoft side, because "yellow flags" get examined, not just the outright discrepancies.
This is very helpful! I’m currently in the second stage where HireRights has finished my background process but now Microsoft is reviewing the report. I had yellow flags on my report but hopefully it won’t do any harm since I had no discrepancies or red flags. I’m also currently working for Microsoft as a contractor so I guess that should help as I have done a background check before. At this point I’m hoping for the best and hopefully they don’t take much longer because I’m starting to get anxious.
How long after they finished getting details did it take hire right to complete their side?
So how many days did you wait? In a same boat now
Same problem here. Signed offer letter 3 days ago and still haven’t heard from Hire Right to initiate the background check
I'm in the same situation. Background check has not been initiated yet. It has been three days since I signed my offer. How long did it take for you guys for them to send out a link?
As an FYI it took me 3 business days between signing the offer and getting the email invite to the background check. I don’t think it’s automated and pretty sure someone besides your recruiter has to input your info to the third party company to initiate the background check process. So if that person is really busy or on vacation, you may have to wait some time.
I received an offer on the 11th of April. My background check report was submitted to the Microsoft security review team on the 21st of April and I still haven’t heard anything. I had all green flags with one yellow flag for gap in employment of 4 months, I did explain that I was looking for a job during this time. Should I be worried that it’s taking this long for me to get the okay from HR?
I am in same boat. HireRight submitted my report to MSFT 3 days back with all green flag and 1 yellow flag for Gap Standards. I have a break of 5 months in my career. After how many days you got clearance from Microsoft?
It all worked out. It took a total of 3 weeks to get the start date. The background check took 2 weeks or so and then another week to get the okay from HR
Hi all, can anyone give a clue whether Microsoft will contact ex bosses or only HR of previous employers? thanks
