i recently got an offer from Picarro in Santa Clara. They offered TC of 144k base+ 15k Stock + 3.5k sign on with 10% variable. Is it a good offer to accept?

current TC - 98k + 12% variable (chances of promotion) (Pittsburgh, PA)

yoe: 8

Position: Senior Software Engineer

i have two other interviews lined up and picarro has hit me up with a deadline to accept/reject the offer

You can use this offer to negotiate! Try hitting 250k atleast with that yoe. It’s ducking expensive living in the bay area

OP: That money ain't enough to live here. You must ask for more.

Get out here with this job then go find another one in a year. Much easier to interview in the Bay Area when you live in the Bay Area.

You mean it’s easier for the candidate right ? For companies I feel it’s almost the same regardless since there are phone interviews etc

Easier for candidate to pass resume screens, easier to interview, easier to get referrals. The entire process is a huge advantage being local.

I was suggesting that he didn't have to take this offer. Just take a two week pto. He will land a better offer.

I’m thinking about it too. It might be easier to find another one being local. One concern I have is, does this TC is taken into consideration to determine TC in next job?

No, once you’re here you’ll be a Cali resident applying for Cali job — they’re not legally allowed to ask for your current comp, so it won’t screw you for next job

Way too low. Between taxes and high cost of living, you will burn your current savings if you have a family.

Or you will end up renting a room with 5 other roommates.

144k base for Senior in Silicon Valley with 8 YOE?
I wouldn't consider this offer, even if you negotiate it will still be a low ball for Valley

Spend some time on blind and you will realize how much you should be getting. Good luck

It’s reasonable for small company. Most companies can’t come close to comp you see people posting from big companies.

It depends on your interest and situation. You may not be getting very good number in Pittsburg too. So this is a welcome change. Do not pan to stay here until Nd unless you get into real Bay Area numbers. Having said that it’s good place for techies. Coming here is not easy going out is relatively easy.

What's your current living situation? You'll probably have to downgrade a lot in the Bay Area

Yes. I will have to downgrade my living to save what I’m saving here. The Rent I pay here is 2.5x less than what I may be paying in San Jose Area.
