Our HR industry is hopeless, there is zero gender balance in HR. Full of white SJW feminists.

  • Point of personal privilege, can we not use the term engineers as that implies gender due to the soft e in eers.

Point of personal privilege: can we not use grammatically correct English? It’s offensive to the comrades among us who are not good at English.

Point of personal privilege, can we not use English since they were colonialists and many here among us do not recognize them as a default culture and language.

Sure but right now the language is only about what is intended not about what was received. This issue definitely deserves more understanding. Why is language gendered in the first place? "We judge others by their actions and ourselves by our intentions." is another variation.

Gendered language is mostly a lame historical leftover, which stands out more for English because so few things are left gendered vs a lot of languages (at least European ones as familiar to Americans) where almost everything is gendered vs mostly pronouns and some professions

And language has never been entirely about what's intended or we'd all be making up new words. That there's an expectation of a common way it'll be received (and in many ways a reasonable one - generic "he" for example was taught in schools as recently as when I was a kid) and that such a way is exclusionary to some people is a big point of inclusive language.

We do make up new words and terms all the time. It’s called slang and it’s done slowly and collectively because it’s meant to be understood by others.

It’s one of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn points about communism. The point of making everyone say things they knew weren’t true was simply to prove that you are powerless and to humiliate you. The fact is if as a whole everyone said bullshit to this kind of craziness it would cease.

This is why people wonder how did Germany go from the Weimar Republic to a fascist dictatorship... this is how they did it. Pretty soon normal people were saying crazy shit because a minority controlled speech, conduct and acceptable behavior.

    People are sheep....

On general principle, inclusive language is a good thing. Mandatory inclusive language training goes wayyyyy too far

  • It’s also amazing how many of these seem to have far less to do with avoiding offense and fostering an inclusive workplace than they do with making sure that nobody ever behaves even remotely like an individual in the workplace.
