I am a Masters in CS with 2 years of prior industry experience and 1 year of current internship experience at a mapping company (HERE) in Chicago, IL. I am mainly interested in roles which align with Machine Learning, also which is in line with my industry experience, internship experience as well as masters. I have the following offers currently and need some perspective to determine which offer should I go ahead with, all offers are in USD -

1. Amazon - Seattle, WA
Base - 108k
Signing bonus - 24k first yr, 20k second yr
Stocks - 70k vested over 4 yrs
Team - Unknown

2. Microsoft - Redmond, WA
Base - 120k
Signing bonus - 35k
Stocks - 120k vested over 3.5 yrs
Bonus - 0-20% (Average is 10%)
Stock Bonus - Unknown
Team - The recruiter said I am heading in Cloud & AI but landing in Commerce & Ecosystems (I don't understand what she meant by that, read some reviews about commerce & ecosystems on Blind, doesn't seem too great)

3. Mapping company(HERE) in Chicago, IL (Current internship)
Base - 100k
Bonus - upto 7.5%
Team - Machine learning/ Computer Vision Feature extraction team

Now, I really enjoy my current work, it is challenging and full of research work. I won't mind entering a new field but it should align somewhat to everything I have done till now. What do you propose the best out of these offers is, which will help me better in future too.

  • Congratulations on the offers.

What about yearly stock refreshers? And yearly cash bonuses at Amazon?

thank you! There's no cash bonuses at Amazon and I am not sure about yearly stock refreshers, there wasn't anything mentioned in Amazon's offer letter. Annual stock reward was present in Microsoft's offer letter but there is no defined amount mentioned.

    • Ok. Even though the TC is less I’m leaning towards Amazon.

Once you have a FAANG on your resume, you get a lot of street cred, and your next job pays you a shitton more. Plus at the higher levels, TC is waay more.

Microsoft is good but still a tier or two below Amazon in terms of culture and credibility.

Amazon culture > MSFT culture? Really? I’m a bit surprised

    • I’m more referring to a culture of getting shit done, ie professional work culture, rather than WLB.

I think the former is more important to OP’s long term career

If you have immediate visa issues and you think your company may not be able to handle those, go to Microsoft or Amazon.

Else stay at HERE since you know you enjoy the work which is not guaranteed at the other companies.
