I am currently working in academia (phd in physics) but have been finding jobs in tech industry. Can anyone offer referrals for companies in Boston/Cambridge area? Since I am "new" to the software engineering, non-startups seem to be more suitable (?).

I have done side projects in ML / webapp (aws lambda+flask) / alexa skill / phone app etc. Recently I got rejected by google at HC (after onsite, without teammatch). but hey, I am glad that I made it that far..

Anyone interested in referring me?

PS. currently in a non-east-coast big city

I think it's fine. I have a SW background and industry experience though.

I’d do your research on Wayfair, some people love it, lots of people are looking too.

Yeah I think it totally depends on which team you end up in. I have been here for 4 years and love the work I do.

Keep in mind Wayfair is the largest tech employer in Boston, so with that cones a lot of variability of experience, like you’d expect at Amazon in Seattle, so careful with your team choices.

from my job search experience, publication record worth nothing unless it is related (e.g., ML/AI for some research-y roles). I did not even put them on my resume. But I did lay out what tech were used in those academic projects.
