You should be able to to swing at least 250k TC for Austin if you're in arch/modeling/RTL and interviewed well

How does TC work at Samsung ? Since there are no stock, you get high bonus?

Performance rating is a huge multiplier on total cash bonus. Titles don’t cleanly map to salary bands either. Base also varies by group and job function.

PhD with 5 YOE making 250k+ TC in Austin sounds insane. I don't think many people can negotiate to that price point. Tons of people in the Bay is making the same or less in HW.

Have a friend working in Samsung Austin. Let's just say WLB for him is a foreign concept. He would reach work around 8 and return at 7 every day even on Fridays .

@arbit8495 I am privy to a lot of offers before when there was a diaspora of Raleigh Qualcomm engineers to SARC. Nobody with 5 YOE was getting 250K. I do know they have 7 year retention bonus. 1 engineer with 15 YOE was getting 175-200k I believe. I think HW is a lost cause unless you’re the top dog.

If you aren’t Korean then you get 0 stock and are a second class citizen. They have no investment in their employees and try to make up for it in cash. If you want any kind of wlb then stay away.

I never worked for Samsung but I wanted to comment to tell OP that you have to listen to people who worked there. Ask help on blind or Glassdoor
Reviews should give you a good opinion on the company. Never join a company while knowing it’s bad. I’ve seen people switch for more money but we’re absolutely miserable. I hope you find the right answers. Good luck

I am currently working for Samsung and I can clearly tell you: 1. Samsung doesn't care about its people, what they care is only "worker" who follows order. So if you are the people who has your own thinking, this is not a place for you, but if you are a worker who is good at "yes sir", you will be fine. 2. Everyone in oversea office is second class comparing to HQ, if you don't speak Korean, you are the third class. 3. There's no long term strategy for the company because literally every VP/SVP/CEO is "contractor", their job titles are renewed every year so all they care is just short term - how to get the VP title renewed for the next year.

How is the TC at Samsung though? Statarb seems to give out the vibe that Samsung pays like the FAANG
      Sep 5
    • Samsung XsSU65
Samsung doesn't offer stock, so just from TC point of view, it is in the low-mid range of FANG. Also it depends on level, the higher the more comparable. Every year you will have 2-3 % increase on base salary, 20 to 30 % cash bonus depending on company, your organization, and your own performance, heavily based on company performance though. For each promotion, you will get 5 to 15% increase on base salary.

The reason why they even offer retention bonus is because your manager wants to help you but due to stupid company review policy your manager cannot promote you or provide you the salary from the normal way.....This is another problem of Samsung, the HR compensation team locates in New Jersey is completely useless or even anti productive. Their mindset is not helping company or manager to keep the best talent, but how to use less money to find a "worker". Either they don't know the current market value (they always refer to NJ area living cost and salary level to determine other locations) or they don't care about keeping the talent

Lol tons of bs out there. Samsung sarc rtl design role with 4/5 yoe can get you to 130-140k base + 20% bonus as a senior eng. Now you have to be really special to be in the retention bonus. Otherwise that’s about it.

But samsung really likes to lowball ppl without competing offer. I know they matched oracle’s laid off salary at 120k for 4 yoe out of ut ee ms

    • Apple RQVo51
Sarc is nice place to work at. Free breakfast taco Wednesday, happy hour free drinks every other Thursday. Depends on the team. Tons of laid back intel/and/Freescale folk that were laid off I guess due to lack of performance.

OP, ask for 300 TC including cash and retention bonus. All the sob stories you hear of Samsung are from engineers in IT/ CAD/Verification/Physical design and folks who have been here for 5+ years. RecentLy hired RTL designers and Architects make great salaries.

Yes but it’s rarely offered as not everyone has it. so it’s not a norm.

What position/role/title? Software engineering in Austin, for instance, for 5 YOE can easily reach 190k TC . For 11 YOE, think 280k plus, especially for IT companies.
