Would like to know market rate salary for a Sr. Interaction designers based in Palo Alto? I spoke to a recruiter who threw out the number 110k but that sounded too low for the area. Would love some insight...
Depends on the size of the company. Bigger organizations, the TC could be 145-200k, smaller firms, maybe 120-130. Either way 110 is low, especially for PA.
It's a larger company but they made it a point to mention that they can't match fang prices
Well, then they can’t get a designer of your caliber either.
Low balled. Even with a not so popular startup, and a lower level (not senior) ; I was making 120K back in 2014. Do you have a bonus + stock component?
Target comp 200-250k minimum
110k is definitely on the low end, probably closer to 145-175k on average in PA (base salary). But definitely depends on type of company, number of other designers (including those at your level), and scope of responsibility. Design firms and startups definitely low ball, medium companies have more flex for negotiation, large companies might have caps on salary but tend to push higher than most other types of companies.
Most sr lvl designers also get down leveled when going to FANG. It just depends on the scope of the role and the caliber of designer you are. If I have to honestly guess, you might be an L5, which in the Amazon world can get you 125-160k TC. If L4, probably in the 100-125k. I’m sure Google and FB scale is higher though.
