i hear people talking about therapy. for those of you who have gone for therapy, how did you know you needed it? how has it helped?
I noticed that the most mentally healthy people that I knew used to have therapy sections for years, so I decided then to give it a try. The conversations with the therapist are not pleasant, but help me organize my thoughts.. You don’t need to be at rock bottom to talk to a therapist, actually. And also have in mind that it’s ok to try different professionals until you find one that you feel comfortable speaking.
I was extremely angsty all the time about everything. I wasn't sure it would help. The therapist asked some very insightful questions though and it was helpful to talk through my thoughts instead of running myself around in the same loop I'd been going in.
Therapy is a lot like dating, you have to go out with multiple ones before you find one you like. I started going when I started having difficulty getting out of my bed for work. I've had both good and bad sessions, but overall I find that it has helped me connect my brain with my emotions. I am loads better now and it's partly because therapy (health, job stability, family, friends, and hobbies round out the stuff)
Super helpful. Had something I could not handle emotionally and as a result seeked therapy. This is probably the eighth month being with this therapist. The experience really helped me understand myself better, be more aware of my own thoughts, and develop critical skills (self soothing, self acceptance, etc.). Basically with that help I’m recovering more effectively and gain insights that I would not be able to otherwise.
CBT can help you work through your problems, but some people don't find it useful. There are other types of therapy besides CBT and you may want to research therapy methodologies to see what may work for you. Regardless of what you choose, research and interview your therapists carefully. Don't be afraid to let a therapist go if needed. Lastly, you can also perform therapy on yourself. Look into the philosophy of stoicism.
I realized I was unstable emotionally so needed to address that. Not helped much (met with a therapist 5-6 times).
How are you emotionally unstable?
Was getting upset too easily about everything. Was very fragile.
