been working in Corp finance for the past 5.5years without any vacation longer than seven days. getting a bit burnt out, would also like to move companies. how terrible would it be to take 3-6months off to travel and work on my tech skills to move away from finance to the business side of things at a company other than MSFT?
well the plan would be to use my annual bonus , rent a room out in my house, Uber/Lyft, etc
I like this plan. do that and write about your sabbatical and job transition via blog or journal βΊππβπππ²π
What business roles are you looking for specifically. Also, why leave msft totally, id imagine it easier to transition to the business while in msft
Yea, 3-6 months is a non factor in my opinion, as long as you have a good story. Volunteered, traveled the world, etc.
thanks!

You'll need more than savings, you'll need ongoing income from somewhere: rent, dividends... I don't think a sabbatical will affect your chances of getting a job back specially if you keep yourself prepared. But consider the continuity of your health insurance and so on.
boring stuff. just a few weeks off can change your life. We are all going to die anyway.
