I can’t speak to engineering since I’m not in the org, but I can speak to sales. Pros: Fast-paced, great product, amazing engineering & product talent, executive team from Meraki (they have a been there, done that outlook that is invaluable in the start up game), crushing the competition, high morale, great benefits, real earning potential if you’re good at sales. Cons: Pretty cut throat in sales (you miss and you’re auto-pipped. You miss again—gone), growing pains on the training/sales enablement side, lower OTE (keep in mind average quota attainment is 150%). Very tight on stock negotiation. They know it’s worth a lot and they don’t give it out like candy. The in-between: strong sales culture. Great if you like a competitive culture, but you probably won’t last long in sales if you don’t. OTE is lower than market rate because they intentionally plan on quota overachievement. If you hit 100%, you’re not really making crazy money. It’s uncapped commission so there are reps making 450% quota attainment and bringing home 6 figure commission checks. The CSO has a PhD in psychology so he purposefully has crafted a competitive, sales driven culture. TL;DR: I love Working in Sales @ Samsara and can’t imagine leaving anytime soon. That being said, it’s not a great place if you don’t want to work in a highly competitive environment. As for engineering— from what I can tell, they are much more laid back than the sales org (this is typical though)
Wow very thorough, thanks!
I'm happy with all of the above, and don't plan on leaving anytime soon.
