unbelievable PIP story in Amazon

I was in dev plan early this year. After few months coach with my manager and did the coach plan wiht manager, he told me that he is satisfied the improvement in past few months, so I am survived from that dev plan. Though I guess the real reason is that one people left team early and we were busy, he just don't wanna lose another.

But this week, I tried to switch to other team, I am surprise that I am still in the dev plan. I talk to my manager and he told me he put me in the dev plan again recently.

Now I feel like probably he never put me out the dev plan at all. He keeps me in the dark all the time.

Any suggestion?

Update:
The feedback I got from few internal teams I interview with is very positive, if you guys are hiring. Please pm me.

Wait, so you just get told, verbally, that you’re on PIP and there is no official mail detailing your shortcomings and what is required to get off PIP, and again, no official email saying you’re off PIP? And he magically put you on PIP again without telling you?

    Something’s fishy.

I never see any official email or document like that. My manager and I have some email thread including weekly work summaries and his feedback. I can treat this as a "document" as PIP or coach. But I never see any email or document saying I am off the PIP or in PIP again. Maybe manager has those docs and he doesn't need or can't share with me. This is fucking weird, right?
      Aug 16
    • Microsoft goddamnit
Yeah. I mean, I’ve never worked at Amazon, but I can’t believe that there is such a thing as a PIP without an official email explaining where you are deficient and what the action plan or requirements are for you to be considered to successfully complete your PIP.

Oh, He did sent me some email for my first time in dev plan. But no email saying I was off and I am in that plan again.

    • Microsoft goddamnit
Yeah so then you never were off it, or he would have sent a follow up detailing your accomplishments to successfully get off it.

Find next gig and leave. They don’t want you there. Amazon’s management style is to hire candidates with a belief that not every one can be Amazonian in long term so they only give small amount of stock for first two years, test candidates and churn and burn candidates out of firm whom they think don’t meet the bar or manager don’t like them.

They will get you out regardless. It’s best to have plan B and leave as soon as you can than linger in the company which don’t value you and what you bring to table.

The writing’s on the wall, you should quit. You will feel lesst stressed out if you have offers, you can decide where to join later on. This is really shitty of the manager btw

When you interview and get offer do talk to the hiring manager and get a feel of the culture if you can. You don’t want to end up with a shitty manager in another company. Ofcourse you can’t predict exactly but do whatever you can to learn from this and avoid it in future.

There is no requirement to let someone know that they are on a dev plan. Find a company that will take care of immigration and also treat you with some respect.

Stop doing work , focus on interviewing. Pretend you are doing work without doing it. Your manager is clearly an asshole and you must find a way to teach him a lesson.

It is not a manager, but you have to learn from this. He will fall on his own, but you can benefit from resolving this situation and growing, especially that you are ready to risk the employment.

Consider taking FMLA leave. It will give you time to prepare and find a job outside Amazon. Search blind for"FMLA leave for stressed out employees".

Amazon is a soulless corporate monster. Company delights customers but treats employees like absolute s hit.
