weekend work

Any law around making people work on weekends without additional compensation like OT? Observing this practice in many companies in the valley.

There are laws against requiring certain types of employees to work uncompensated OT. They are paid hourly wages and classed "non-exempt" because they are not exempt from being paid under this law. Salaried employees are "exempt" meaning companies are not required to pay OT - they get paid for a whole day even if they don't work a whole day (they are salaried).

If youโ€™re a salaried engineer, no. But you can always get another job so... ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Time is basically meaningless in many desk jobs. I watched a youtube hobby vid for 1 hour, does that count as work...

How many hours of YouTube watching are you willing to pay your mechanic, plumber, electrician, painter, or anyone else for? Seriously ... are we adults or lazy 12 year olds.

Cisco doesn't let us work even on weekdays. I don't know if there's a law about that.
