i have no idea what they're actually working on, what consultant job actually is?

- do they write code? what kind of software do they write?
- deploy software out of the box?
- anything on the day to day tasks of typical projects.

anything useful really to clarify this mystery for me, i googled and didn't get anything useful?

    We do EVERYTHING.
Consulting, project management, Writing code, which fucks up the system and then maintenance to keep that broken system up and running.
We use all kind of technologies Java Go ASP Mainframe Cobol Assembler etc.
nowadays we are doing something “different”. We are migrating the legacy systems to AWS Cloud.
In short You’re gonna learn a lottttt in a short period of time.

Once you have leetcoded your ass off for a resume hosting co and left a pile of shit behind, you need people with some real balls(no offense ladies) to come in and set the house right.

People from consulting companies are not all bad. Never worked for a consulting co, but, worked with a several employees from there, in some key Engineering projects dealing with complex embedded systems, where reliability is Paramount. They have earned my respect.

No @method. I was being sarcastic because I know what people think about these Indian Consulting firms. Hope @RottenRobi’ s comment will give you some insight.

They/We do everything . We have written lot of top notch software . Many banks , retail like Walmart target uses our software . Chase , BT , Sears , Kaiser , you make it , they would have used our software . In addition to developing softwares , Lot of implementation, maintenance support etc is also done by these companies. This is same as what Microsoft or amazon or Uber is doing . TC may be low but many of the FAANG engineers started and learned their career there

Wasn't it so easy to put the blame on a consulting company? What did QA team do? What did the delivery team do? I don't understand how easy is it for anyone to insult someone just like that.

Their main work is to ass lick the hell out of their managers to send them abroad.
After that they continue the ass licking so that they are sent abroad again and again.

I am not generalizing but it's so true... sadly..ppl learn a lot but get swayed away by politics..and eventually are always frustrated and jealous of anything

@leetrabbit And you don't think that happens here as well? Especially in teams with an Indian majority.

@suzi you are correct.but here they have a mixed set of ppl especially in mgmt so the intensity/frequency is lesser... however I am not in Bay Area or NJ so I don't know the real extent...

A lot of Indians in Blind like to shit on these companies and I get it - it was because of them that the GC backlog is so long .
However a lot of Indians started their career there and even if shitty work got a jumpstart in their careers to learn technologies which helped them then get into FAANG and MS/PhD programs . A few years back when Coursera and online learning wasn’t so easily available - these companies helped train people on new tech that typically no one would let a fresher touch in the US . So it has helped jumpstart quite a few FAANG star coder’s careers.

Think of a typical company/or corporation. Ever wondered how the operations behind the entire company is coordinated? This could be Finance, Supply chains, Procurement, HR management, Inventory management, CRM, Vendor management, Billing, Payments, Auditing etc. Corporations are complex organisms, that require assistance of software and services to organize this gigantic operation. There are many companies that build such products for corporations such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft etc.

Typically companies like TCS, Infosys assist corporations implement & maintain such software. Most corporations view this work as a cost centre and want to get the work in the cheapest and best possible way.

The stack they work on, varies project to project, depending on the assignment. And yes, they also do have expertise in legacy systems maintenance.

One of my pet peeves, what the fuck people at Apple do?

Everytime I unplug my MacBook Pro from the the monitor and close the lid and open it again, it crashes.

MacOS is the new Windows 95.

In comparison, I've written device drivers for routers that are routing multi-terrabit traffic, with redundant route processor cards, where our test teams ruthlessly pull out the active processor from a running system and expect none of the thousands of BGP sessions to flap. And, are expected to seemlessly failed over to the standby processor and the system never hiccups and no packets are dropped in the fastpath.

And, yes we did have people from Infosys, Wipro etc working with us on these projects.

we have a lot of these but are slowly moving off vendors. they do software development just like a regular FTE except their benefits, salary, etc. are handled by the vendor. the developers themselves are probably getting exploited and being paid peanuts while the consulting company gets paid big $$$.

can't just they leave the company and join the vendor or it's a temp job?

They are definitely not paid peanuts, if you look at their salaries based on LCA data, the average would be around 70,000 USD. Most of them do come from India, are earnest and want best for their families. They like the welcoming nature of Americans, enjoy the high quality of life here and appreciate the relative high quality of education their kids get.

Yes, there is politiking, back biting, jealousy and typical office stuff in these work environment. And that is a function of how little opportunity there is in that space to capture upside. The way the industry is structured on H1B visas and GC backlogs make it hard for most of them to switch companies.

And then there are significant number of them who defraud immigration system with faulty representation to USCIS to get work visa approved in connivance with greedy consulting companies.

Anyone at such consulting companies do everything that any other developer does.

I don't think it's such a hard thing to find as you say you googled and didn't find anything.

Seriously, you may want to learn about capitalizing a word though! because your writing sucks!
