whats the average salary for remote work?

interviewing with a company thats offering $60 - $70k for a mid-level SE position. I'm a fresh grad from an emerging nation (in Africa). normally i would take the money no question. but I've found myself relocating to the US. and reading the comp posts on here... I see people making 5x that

I’m confused- are you moving to the US to work remotely? Wouldn’t your money go farther in Africa?

Most of the TC posted here are in the top 5%. I wouldn’t benchmark against that for most people.

Depending on location 70k is a perfectly fine TC for a fresh grad SE. in fact in some areas you’ll live large on that salary.

thanks for the advice and encouragement! P. S. Im living in LA. But open to moving...

Oof. That’s okay for LA but not great. If you can survive on that and be happy then definitely stay because there’s awesome opportunities to increase TC there that you might not get in lower COL cities. Plus LA is awesome. Love it there. Edit: Actually that’s still harsh of me. 70k is a decent salary even for LA. My above comments still stand. If you’re doing well and happy in LA then stay because of the huge up side opportunity.

Right. If you are moving to US share location. 70k sounds low for big metros.

living in LA

In Texas, Midwest, or most of the South east that’s great money. NYC or SF you’ll struggle. Just be smart about your location.

It's all about location. The company still pays based on cost of living. What state?

California

Wow hope you're not in the top cost of living areas.. There's some sites that can show you cost of living based on city and compare between a few to get an idea.
