Or... Any European countries for that matter. London for example has the same cost of living of SF basically Even big players like Facebook and Google pay low there.
Coders get paid way too higher in the bay. And it’s just another job, not a path to millionaires, in everywhere else in the globe.
Whatever is happening in the bay is pretty much a white collar slavery
But $$$$ is better than $$.
NHS takes care of your insurance and many other govt funded things
Google Zurich pays more than Bay area
They can get people to work for that much there? Talent pool includes former Soviet block with great engineers and lower salary expectations. Also, for cost of living, you need to consider that UK has pension, universal health care and good public schools, affordable college, so you don't need to spend/save for these.
State Pension max out at 8k pounds, NHS is worse than private insurance provided by tech companies, for good public schools you have to live in very expensive area (same as US). College is more affordable in UK though.
How is NHS worse? It’s fully free, isn’t it? Any idea how pension works for non-UK citizens when they leave the country?
A lot of startups in the US due to much VC funding increases the demand and competition for coders.
Oh Hi oscar. How is work today?
The entire planet feeds USA. Why would salaries be higher elsewhere? It is natural for economy to concentrate power in small central areas where the money flow through.
London is full of highly compensated people in finance
They don’t need as many people there. So supply of engineers is higher than the demand. In bay everyone wants the best engineers and the number of openings far exceed the supply available due to caps on H1b that restricts the number of people that can work here. So not only is demand off the hook but supply is extremely low which causes salaries to raise.
Companies pay cost of demand not cost of living.
Market rate.
I'm surprised that people find this simple fact hard to understanding
