why childcare is so expensive in Seattle?!!

i looked at 3 locations for toddlers, and not only they ask for $2,400 - $2,700; but also have to wait in line at least 6 months!! i can afford this but not save much anymore, but how the fuck others can do it?! what if i had more than two kids?!!

I moved to Bay Area recently after living in Seattle for 14 years. Childcare is very expensive compared to Bay Area. I couldn’t save anything as if was paying to our babysitter. I feel Seattle is bit hyped for being cheap. The pay was very less before Amazon. The demands from the nannies ! PTO, no shows , excuses .

It’s cheap due to the taxes, not as much because of cost of living

If you want quality of those employed to care for your children then wait and pay. Just sayin’

We saved about 60k on daycare by working from home or flexible work hours by just staying at Microsoft until my kid turned 2. No one cares how much extra time and energy you invest on something or if you say I am not feeling good to come to work today but if you just deliver what you've been asked for you are good to go.

American Airlines ydntudkof Oct 12, 2019

True. Imagine being labeled as that insensitive prick bad mouthing a dad or mom having to wfh to care for sick kid unable to go to daycare.

GE gydP56 Oct 12, 2019

Wow lucky you! I worked for a shitty company when my child was 2 months , where they monitored time .
