i am about to accept an offer to work at amazon in a product role. we also want to start a family in the next year or two, and i have an amazing husband who’s very supportive. i know that the work hours are going to be tough. can someone who works at the company share any tips on how to make the most of it ? in fact, even if you dont work at amazon but work in a very demanding environment, can you share insights ? (caps is broken on my phone.)
I work from 7am to 4pm most days. Wlb is fine. Some ppl come in at 11am and most around 9am. I am usually the only one there at 7am on the whole floor. Not sure where the people are who are working 70 hours
1: know your priorities. How important to start a family? How important to promote as fast as possible? If you think WLB is important to you: 2. It’s easy to switch team inside AMZN. Find the teams with good WLB and move.
Thanks this is super helpful !! A true PM always prioritises :)
As others have said, wlb depends on the team. I come in at 930 and leave at 5. Nobody has said anything to me about it.
Don't worry at all. PM's do nothing.
Sour grapes ?
Eng make way more than PMs. Not sure why he would be sour.
Leave after two years and save a ton of money during those times. Hopefully your relationship is stable. It will take a toll
It it stable , thankfully.. yes I do plan to save a ton and GTFO before I go crazy in a few years
The way I define Amazon: great learning, frugality, average work life balance, worst benefits, above average compensation
Seriously, here at Home Depot, it has been average WLB, frugality, mediocre learning, worst benefits and even average to below average compensation. Amazon is no google, but is is leaps and bounds better than many companies out there.
Home depot and Amazon are worlds apart
Wlb can vary depending on your team- but don’t be afraid to set boundaries and stick to them. The fact that you don’t call into a 10pm meeting will never be put into your promo doc
Thanks ! That’s a great tip
