Yes, otherwise I get kicked in my backend.

OP, do you even math bro?

Indeed Mixicitano Jul 18, 2018

Try every way possible to avoid it. With health issues it can be impractical.

I've been trying to become a backend engineer for the past >5 years ("stuck" doing frontend). Now I'm wondering if I really want to do it given that I'll likely have to do pagerduty.

Write code that doesn't catch fire all the time

Microsoft Tier 1 Jul 18, 2018

If only I only had to do on call for my own code

Microsoft @zzz Jul 18, 2018

Big serious issues are usually backend. So yes. Front-end engineers can usually get away by showing cute puppies.

Nope 🙂 we got SREs to do that dirty work

Google hooli.xyz Jul 22, 2018

Sure. But if your code is crap, the SREs will hand the pager back to you until the backend code is fixed.

In many companies, SRE is a fancy name for ops. You are thinking SRE as Google defined them and many companies don't do anything like that for their engineering teams.
