These tech companies delay return-to-work due to Delta variant

As the delta variant of COVID-19 cases rise, many tech companies are keeping their physical offices closed. Many tech companies, including Apple and Amazon, have already postponed their plans to return to work after announcing returning to office mandates just a few months ago.

So what is really going on? Who’s returning to work and who’s not? Blind surveyed 3,077 Bay Area tech employees and asked the following two questions.

  1. Did you ever commute to the office for work this month?
  2. Has your company postponed return to on-site work due to the delta variant of COVID-19?

The results show the companies are taking a wide variety of approaches to return to the office. Here are some of the highlights.

  • Over 40% of Google, Apple, Uber, Microsoft, Tesla employees have commuted at least once in August, while less than 10% at Paypal and Oracle.
  • Apple, Facebook, and Amazon seem to have communicated their postposing of return to the office very well with over 85 % of employees aware of the policy. However, many employees at Adobe and Salesforce are unsure of their policy.
