The Great Resignation hits the metaverse

Meta isn’t letting controversy stop its plans to own the metaverse. In the last year, the parent company of Facebook has poached 100 people from the augmented-reality group at Microsoft that makes HoloLens. Some of the new employees reported receiving offers that doubled their salaries.

Put it on my card!

It turns out that credit cards for startups are big business. Brex confirmed it raised $300 million at a $12.3 billion valuation after its revenue more than doubled in 2021. The three-year-old company also said it hired a new chief product officer from Meta.

Boost up

“Booster” shots of the COVID-19 vaccination will be required for all Meta employees. The metaverse company won’t recall people to the offices until March 28, which it says will be enough time for everyone to get caught up on their jabs.

Crypto takes a break after all

The cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase will shut down the company for one week every quarter in 2022. But don’t get too excited: The company says the “recharge weeks” will be an experiment and will likely not be continued next year.

Find out why some at Coinbase aren’t too excited.

London calling

Hybrid is in at Google. The internet giant bought $1 billion of real estate in the center of London but will keep a flexible work schedule. Construction of the 11-story building is underway, and when done, it will have a swimming pool, indoor basketball court, massage rooms, a roof garden, and, oh yeah, office space for 10,000 employees.
