Work-life balance; nice culture, decent people; can find something mildly interesting to do
No cutting edge stuff, fair share of weird legacy if you're unlucky with the team A lot of people just coasting, including management, resulting in a lack of things being done TC seems to be mostly based on the tenure; don't hope to get any decent increases for the first couple of years regardless of how much you work, unless on the new-grad position
I'm trying to make a tough decision picking between Bloomberg vs Amazon (both NYC) Bloomberg (senior Software engineer): TC 210k Amazon (SDE 2): 160 base, 60/55k signing, 60 stock (220 TC) Bloomberg team is for their trading platform Amazon team is in the ads org Both have their Pros and cons Bloo...Read more

I am planning to do a masters but I am interviewing with Bloomberg and Amazon soon so i don't really need it for a comfy life. With masters (from Brown), I can aim for hedge funds and shift to quant. Are there any other benefits of masters and do you think if its worth it? Why?
I have a very well diversified portfolio of about 40 stocks, about 8 ETFs and mutual funds. I've been playing it safe. I have about 500k on non retirement accounts (another 500k in retirement accounts). So taking a risk with 40 to 50k doesn't not seem too dangerous. #investments Obviously I'd like ...Read more
What can I do to maximize my TC? I graduated this December and have been working at a startup in bay area for 3 weeks now. I have interviews with Dropbox and Bloomberg later this week. Hopefully Amazon too. FAANG or Hedge funds or something else? tc: 120k
Just curious how much legacy code in FAANG? Or would legacy code be an issue for engineer at FAANG? Here at Bloomberg I feel its a waste of time to struggle with so much poorly written legacy code like 20 years ago(eap for finance app), also without document, feel like dead-end career.... Background: CS major, 0 YOE, currently working remotely in Canada. I joined Coinbase around the start of the year as a IC3 (New grad). By popular demand, I'm reposting one of my replies on another thread. This tiering is based on both trajectory and overall scale of total comp (base+bonus+stock) for IC positions.
