Rant / question. TD;DR, not joining 60+ new joiners / onboarding meeting. Bad? Will I get fired? So I recently joined a new company, everythings great but there are like gazillions onboarding / "new joiners" meetings and most of it are super unrelated to my job. Im an IC and these meetings ranged ...Read more

You get little time and guidance to learn the company’s development and release processes, struggle to understand the culture, and barely feel connected to your new coworkers. Who would’ve thought being able to walk up to someone and ask a question would be a luxury. I’d rather work from an office ...Read more
See title. Companies like Optiver, Sig, etc have 2-4 month long training courses where they take someone with 0 knowledge of finance and trading and make them a successful assistant trader that after a bit of experience can manage on his own. I’m currently in Boot Camp and am overall impressed with the process so far. I’m just curious what onboarding is like at other desirable companies. Curious in terms of learning the codebase, ability to ask questions, difficulty/time required to become familiar with the processes, etc. #engineering...Read more
I have bad experience with recruiter and team match. I asked to postpone start date or work remote for a few weeks to end lease and prepare for moving. The shitty recruiter didn't respond. They will say “we don’t expect you to be fully up to speed for 5/6 months” but then judge you for only being 80% productive in the first month. Every new company see...Read more

I feel like every time I’ve changed teams, in any company I’ve worked on, orientation is really crappy. Anyone feel the same? What companies are good at onboarding/orientation?

Hi, I had couple of offers. And 2 months of notice period. I accepted both the offers so that I'll make my mind in these two months about which one to join. But both the companies have started their onboarding process (background verification, financial details etc.). One of them even started coffee...Read more
