- Still a good company on paper with competitive comp, great benefits, and well positioned in the current shift to AI-focused technologies - Still has a lot of great people that are both incredibly talented and kind
The current climate of economic scarcity and aggressive shifts to AI is forcing Google to make some hard choices. I don't think it's that Google has fundamentally changed, but that it's shifted from a "peace time" state to a "war time" mentality. The problem with this shift is that those who thrive in war time mindsets are gaining influence and are likely to impact long term culture. There are still a lot of wonderful and resilient leaders in Google who are fighting for the culture, but they're burning out as business demands continue to mount.
Considering pursuing the Search Backend team at Google (SWE; either NYC or Zurich). Does anyone have any good/bad impressions? Is it a fun culture to work in? TC $200k

Google and Facebook sde folks. I have a small doubt. As a sde what tech do you use commonly for backend development at Google or FB? For example java folks use Spring boot and spring. I heard Google uses protobuffs and FB uses graphql extensively.
Feeling a little burnt out. What major differences would I notice, going from Apple to Google?
