- Still a good company on paper with competitive comp, great benefits, and well positioned in the current shift to AI-focused technologies - Still has a lot of great people that are both incredibly talented and kind
The current climate of economic scarcity and aggressive shifts to AI is forcing Google to make some hard choices. I don't think it's that Google has fundamentally changed, but that it's shifted from a "peace time" state to a "war time" mentality. The problem with this shift is that those who thrive in war time mindsets are gaining influence and are likely to impact long term culture. There are still a lot of wonderful and resilient leaders in Google who are fighting for the culture, but they're burning out as business demands continue to mount.
Why is it that google employees simp for their company and defend them as if they’re part of a family? Do they not realize they’re employees? Do they see working at Google as some massive accomplishment and see working at the company as part of their self worth? It’s the tech equivalent of being a ...Read more
https://youtu.be/RDdjA4yJy88 47:20 I happen to agree. Innovation probably stops, but cashflow magnifies. Definitely need to handle it more nicely than Mr. M did. With less crazy and hypocrisy.
Google keeps getting voted as the best company to work in Blind but I wonder how they take care of employees when it decides to kill a project (which is quite often). I hear they loathe long term investment in emerging tech (like VR) and end up killing them if it does not produce revenue in a couple...Read more
Google left its visa employees hanging at the mercy of market. Needless to say am one of them. https://techcrunch.com/2024/01/17/youtube-to-eliminate-100-employees-as-layoffs-at-google-continue/ Just read this -- can we help to form a list of teams / orgs that are impacted at google just for reference?
mostly just pass protos around, hangout at the food and laundry sites on campus, write like 10 lines of code a week, collect their sweet tc and spend most of their time on random non-work related shit like learning to fly or trim their dog’s toe nails? Fuck sign me up fam, Apple is killing me
I keep hearing a lot about amazing work life balance from (almost all) google employees. The TC is amazing too. How on earth is it possible? I don’t think any other company in FAANG or any company can manage to give both good pay and good WLB. Any insights? #tech #google #wlb #tc
Gonna be starting in a couple weeks, but too impatient/curious to find out for myself. I’ve heard Google employees get 40% off Patagonia and GoPro. Any other cool discounts?
