Initial comp was great; refreshes are harder to get and you have no leverage
Very fragmented; too many product areas; lots of bureaucracy.
What are some of the teams which use Java as the main programming language ? Edit: Besides android
i have an interview at google in 3 weeks, for a frontend position. the recruiter told me i can only code in Java, python or C++, 3 of which i dont know. i currently only know javascript. in 3 weeks, what’s the most easy to learn out of the 3 languages?
Have been a Java developer all my career. Cleared HC, T5, all the teams I spoke with work on C++. How difficult is the transition? Is it worth it? How is it different in google?
Heard from someone that most of google backend is c++. Want to ask anyone who moved from a Java based company like Amazon to Google. How was your experience. I am considering a role in gcp , is gcp fully built on c++?
Any major google projects(except android related) that are developed in Java? Primarily Heard projects being in C++, C or php
Can anyone list out any teams within google that use java? Also nice if you also know whether the team is decent or not overall, politically, WLB etc. Is maps java? Or google assistant?
I agree that Google is huge and must be using variety of languages. But just wanted to get a feel which programming language is prevelant at Google (Like C# at Microsoft, Java at Amazon). Does it use Open Soure tech stack like Springboot, Cassandra, Kafka, etc? #google #techstack #java
Joining as java backend dev at google soon. I am coming from a startup that uses "hot" tech (e.g. golang, kubernetes, docker etc). Folks who have joined google java teams from startups using "hot" technologies- did you find working at google boring? do you regret the move? anything i should be watc...Read more
Are there teams in Google India that work with Java ? TC - 38 LPA Yoe - 4.5
I use vim for my current job and love it. I'm making a switch to Google where I'll be coding in java. Is vim supported well for Java development at Google? Really not trying to use a full ide.
I’ll interview at these places in 1 year or so and I’d like to choose a language to really master: this would mean choosing it for LC, studying it more in depth and trying to get projects/tasks at my current job where I could practice it. I’m currently decent at both, but expert in none. I’d pick ...Read more
Hi all I recently got a team match meeting as an L3 SWE for Google’s Java Platform Team in Sunnyvale, CA. I was wondering what can I expect from the role and work life balance? Also how hard is it to apply for remote work at Google? Old role, I haven’t gotten offer yet: TC: 105k YOE: 2
Recently got reached out by Google Japan recruiter, and knew that I can only choose Java or C++ for all the coding sessions. But I only used Python for Leetcode, how long it need to get used to Java/C++ for interview in Google level? Is it okay to forget/mistype the class/method name of data struct...Read more
I’m a SWE in the UK with about 8 YOE, working exclusively in finance roles. I’ve mainly been using Python in this time with a little Java in the last year or so. I’ve been thinking about a move to a tech company, but looking at roles at Google they all seem to list Java/experience developing apps a...Read more
I usually do algorithm problems with c++, very familiar with the algorithm stl. Problem is my coding style might be nitpicked because I haven’t use it professionally. Do I have to use smart pointers? I also have the feelings that c++ interviewer tend to be competitive programmers.. Should I still ...Read more
How is life writing C++ over Java? Do you miss how nice Java is and simple to follow? I took the team with C++ and now I have buyer's remorse! Kotlin, Python etc. are fine but C++ is a different beast! TC - 300K
Kotlin sucks. Java has gotten so much better since the shift and feels like a real language. Kotlin is just a gross Frankenstein between a bunch of different languages.
...besides being good at leetcoding Or do you also need to know C/C++?

Most of the googlers I have spoken to only code on C++. I am not a great fan of C++ personally. I have great proficiency in Java Scala and Python. Will it be possible to find good teams at google who use these coding languages or will I be missing out on good teams if I dont choose to code in C++ #g...Read more
