- Still a good company on paper with competitive comp, great benefits, and well positioned in the current shift to AI-focused technologies - Still has a lot of great people that are both incredibly talented and kind
The current climate of economic scarcity and aggressive shifts to AI is forcing Google to make some hard choices. I don't think it's that Google has fundamentally changed, but that it's shifted from a "peace time" state to a "war time" mentality. The problem with this shift is that those who thrive in war time mindsets are gaining influence and are likely to impact long term culture. There are still a lot of wonderful and resilient leaders in Google who are fighting for the culture, but they're burning out as business demands continue to mount.
Which language should I use for interviews at FB/Google? I’m very familiar with JS and pretty decent at C++ (but definitely slower and more likely to forget stl APIs). I know most interviews will tell you to use whatever language you want, but I feel like C++ is more impressive, and some teams may...Read more
Recently went through a brutal interview binge over the last few months for senior at the aforementioned companies (+some others, like Amazon, Optiver, Citadel, startups, etc.) This was my first senior interview loop so I wanted to give back and kinda be the post I wish I could've had here on Blind...Read more
Can't seem to get a hackerrank/interview from Google. Trying to get an internship for Fall 2021, since I have an extra semester to burn (taking JS next summer). Looking to apply to Summer 2021 SWE internship position and move it to Fall 2021. I'm pretty confident in my interview skills, got an offe...Read more

20+ years experience. Landed a lot of major projects (some projects where landed single-handedly, some projects were non-trivial contributions to open-source projects, some where in a team where I was a tech lead). Mastery of C++, Java, JS, TS, etc. Been in multiple FAANGs. Yet, no company wants...Read more
I have both new grad offers from Janestreet and Google. I really want to join Janestreet, but I’m worried about the cut throat culture. How often do people get pip at JS? Both are for SWE. Google : 220k Janestreet: 300k
Google to HRT/JS seems common but has anyone seen the reverse? Not finding any cases on LinkedIn.

Looking for JS referral FT swe. Have swe internship experiences at Google, HRT and Databento. Go to a no-name state school.
With the ouster of the OpenAI founder and CEO, chatGPT will soon be a history. The company lacks leadership, vision and credibility. In no time we will see this collapse and buried deep underground. But this js a great news for Google. Bard is on top.
L4 SWE. Just got matched to a front end team at Google. Have never written HTML, CSS, or JS a day in my life. I am a back-end dev. Will probably take it as Google is my dream and it is a significant raise in TC. What does front end at Google involve? Is it easy? Should I learn React? Does Google e...Read more

High-End = substantially better than FNG (Facebook/Netflix/Google) Think high paying quant firms (HRT/JS/CIT/etc..) or top tier AI firms like OpenAi. Have these firms been impacted like the rest of the tech industry in slowdowns/budget cuts/headcount reductions?
In my opinion: - SWE / quant at {JS, 2Sig, Citadel} - Quant at {HRT, Optiver, IMC, Akuna, DE Shaw, DRW}. (I wouldn't consider SWEs at these places as "this guy fucks" imo, but would be very close) - Google Zurich - Spotify Stockholm - Airbnb - Stripe My metric here isn't comp, but shine factor. It looks like Jane street compensation might be higher for new grads but it tops out around one million dollars. So does Google ultimately pay ICs more than Jane street at higher levels (L8+)?
