Initial comp was great; refreshes are harder to get and you have no leverage
Very fragmented; too many product areas; lots of bureaucracy.

Seems I can select MacBook 13 inch or 16 inch. I believe 13 inch would be M1 and 16 would be old chipset? Sad to choose a lousy 16 inch... Any idea what they are handing out at the moment? Also, is it default to get desktop as well?
I'll be starting at Google soon as a SWE, and I need to decide which laptop I want. To any current or former Google employees, what should I pick for my laptop and why? My manager said the team is split 50/50 between Chromebooks and Macs. Current TC: $73000

Is there anyone working in Ops for GCP? I’m curious if you have an option for anything other than a chrome book if you are in IT. The onboarding page says if you are not an engineer, you will automatically be given a chrome book. I would much rather have a MacBook so that would be annoying. Tc:$350...Read more
What would you recommend for a SWE to request at Google for laptop and desktop? I've heard Linux works best for the desktop. Team will use a Java stack.
Did anyone not receive their laptops before their start date at Google? I’m supposed to start Monday but I don’t have a tracking number for my laptop yet. I'm an incoming SWE and need to pick a laptop. I dislike the MBP keyboard so I'm leaning towards Linux or ChromeOS. For anyone who has recently gotten a Linux laptop, did you get a Lenovo Carbon X1 as the form suggests you will be getting or something else? Thanks!
Hello, I'm joining Google as an iOS SWE. I got the form to select my laptop preference and the two Mac options are "Standard. 14" Mac OSX (MacBook Pro or similar)" and "High Perf. 16" Mac OSX (MacBook Pro or similar)".
