What’s it like working on tech roles in hedge fund like citadel, de Shaw, etc? Some recruiters are very aggressively reaching out on LinkedIn even over weekend, punching in timelines asking for some questions, resume, etc? Not sure if this is a red flag?
Can someone help explain the compensation structure for a hedge fund analyst, as well as share what the average numbers look like? Appreciate any help. Thanks.
What is normal salary for 5 yoe? What is wlb like? What do they actually work? Thinking citadel, 2sigma, etc YoE 5 TC 300k
Hoping I don’t dox myself here, but evaluating between a few offers and looking for input. The two most interesting to me are below (co names obscured to not expose myself). First is at a FAANG adjacent, public tech co with thousands of employees on an ML related team. Second is at a relatively yo...Read more
10 years tech experience in banking and financial services. What kind of compensation can I expect from hedge funds?
For those of you who have gone from tech to a top hedge fund: Two Sigma, DE Shaw, Citadel, etc. Is it worth it for higher pay? I’m unfulfilled at G. Been getting EE at L5, but haven’t been promoted in years with no path in sight. I don’t find the work I’m doing all that interesting despite having s...Read more
I checked my portfolio recently and I realized that I have a pretty good 10 year track record that beat S&P handily. I wonder if you will invest if I open a hedge fund? I plan to charge 2% management fee + 20% of the difference between my fund and S&P performance. Basically no performance fee if I ...Read more
Hi all, PhD “almost” grad here, I’m looking into the quant space. How is the compensation (excluding sign-on) that is expected for new PhD grads for quant research/analyst positions at firms like DE Shaw, Two Sigma, Citadel, HRT, PDT, Voleon and the likes? Base and bonus breakdown? Glassdoor says ...Read more
Why Citadel/HRT/Jane-street are more popular among Blind community folks compare to AQR/Bridgewater? The latter group seem to have AUM much higher.
Just got a remote offer from a small hedge fund, I am from Eastern Europe, TC 7k$ per month (that’s quite a lot in my country don’t laugh) for a junior dev. Should I take it?
I’m getting LinkedIn messages from random recruiters everyday. 90% of the firms they pitch I have never heard of, but that’s probably expected. If you also had an offer from another FAANG company, would you consider a hedge fund firm as a software engineer? Why or why not? Also if anyone knows abou...Read more
Have two offers currently that I'm entertaining. A mid tier hedge fund vs a well known investment bank. Bank offers a higher base and tc. Both involve working on greenfield projects with good tech. Benefits are also similar. Which one would be better career wise long term? Leaning HF currently as ...Read more
Hey All - I have an onsite with Citadel that should be coming up shortly. I am awaiting info on the timing and whether it's virtual or actually onsite. If onsite what is the dress code/ norm for a SWE In a hedge fund? Both for every day and the interview. YOE 4 TC ~450
Which would you rather be? (A) An M&A MD at Jeffries (B) A HR intern at GS (C) A janitor at Citadel But seriously what's the best hedge fund to work for? Technical position or otherwise.
In databricks for more than 3 years. The lesson I got is liquid asset is king. RSU is just a bait. Now I want to maximize my TC so I can F off earlier. Anyone done jumping from tech to funds? Thoughts. Tips? Tc 200k. RSU assumes 0
I've never worked at hedge fund companies and don't have friends who work there. I want a simple idea of their TC and stability (wlb, lay offs) in comparison with FANG for the same level. Like senior levels at FANG get about 400-500 TC and their wlb is not terrible in general (of course it depends o...Read more
2 offers... McKinsey for consulting and DE Shaw hedge fund. any advice??? no experience in either position
I was looking at the returns of the largest hedge funds. Bridgewater, with $140B in AUM, has not even outperformed the S&P in its flagship Pure Alpha fund on an annualized basis since 2012. On top of that, the 2 and 20 fee structure would also be present. Here's the link with their sources for fund ...Read more
I got two new-grad FT offers both as a SWE. One is a hedge fund in NYC (TC ~ 220K) and another at MSFT in Seattle (TC ~ 145K). Just wanted advice on which one I should take. Basically everything (location, pay, interesting work?, etc) points to NYC company but I think it might be wiser long-term to ...Read more
